One of the greatest Home Runs in history...Carlton Fisk (1975)

"IT'S A LONG FLY, IF IT STAYS FAIR...HOME RUN!"

On this day in 1975, Boston Red Sox catcher Carlton Fisk hit a ball that struck the left field foul pole in Boston's Fenway Park for a home run. That home run gave the Red Sox a 7-6 victory in the 12th inning over the Cincinnati Reds in Game 6 of the World Series.

This was of course the famous shot of him hopping down the line, willing the ball to stay fair, then to have it hit the foul pole and win the game. The Sox then of course lost Game 7, but not without contributing one of the most memorable moments in baseball history.

So recognizing Carlton Fisk today, 34 years after his amazing and forever remembered Home Run to win Game 6 of the 1975 World Series. With the 2009 ALCS and NLCS winding down, and the picture becoming more clear (gonna go with Phillies vs. Yankees), let's hope we have these types of moments to look forward to...
