Reliably 'Rong Rankings!!!

Every season they release the Preseason Top 25 for college basketball, and every season I wonder WWWHHHHYYYYY! Kansas #1. MSU #2. Texas #3. How long do you think this will actually last?

I will make a prediction right now. Are you ready???

By the end of the season, at least half, HALF, of the Top 25 will no longer be in the Top 25!

This is the biggest joke of a ranking around. At least with football they usually have a pretty good feel for the teams. Whether it is because they have played together, the coach, or the schedule I don't know. Maybe the coaches are just smarter. But what I do know is that they NEVER get it even close to right with basketball.

There are many things that bother me about these rankings, but a few that happen every year and every year I am annoyed by. Here are a few of my biggest grievances:

-Duke is ALWAYS ranked in the Top 10. No matter what the Blue Devils will get that preseason nod as one of the ten best teams for the year. Not sure if Dickie V has more votes than anyone, but they may as well just put their name in sharpie for the 2010-11 season now

-The coaches always "try" to pick a longshot or two and feel the need to rank them nationally. This year it is Dayton. They have done nothing to deserve a Top 25 ranking other than not losing in a blowout to Kansas last year in the tourney

-The East Coast bias. I understand not everyone can stay up late to watch games on the West coast. That's fine. But shit, what has to happen to get some recognition? I mean I know that UCLA was not stellar last season, but come on, how can you argue for Clemson and pass up the Bruins

You don't believe me about the rankings? Last year Villanova was ranked 25 in the rankings preseason! They barely even made the cut. How did they end up last year? Oh that's right, they made it to the National Championship!

How about a few non ranked teams in last years poll... Arizona (went to Sweet 16), Xavier (went to Sweet 16), Syracuse (went to Sweet 16), Missouri (went to Elite 8). These are all big name teams, not any George Mason's in this list, yet they were mentioned nowhere in poll last year.

It is hard to predict this stuff. There is no mistake about it. But it gets to the point where they just get soooo far off, it is more of an injustice than anything to even have them.

But here is to College Basketball season FINALLY starting! (below a little insight into who I will be cheering for)

From the good ol' days. BEAR DOWN!!!
